Return to Finkleton
Reviewed by Evan Weldon (age 10) for Reader Views (4/12)
“Return to Finkleton” by KC Hilton is about Lizzy and her two brothers, Jack and Robert, who moved to Finkleton when their family inherited Uncle Harry’s General Store after he died unexpectedly. While exploring the store, Robert found a hidden lever under the counter which controls the rain in Finkleton. For a long time they thought that was all the shop had to offer them. They were shocked when they found a note from Uncle Harry indicating that they could control time with the clock.
Although the siblings agreed that the clock was too dangerous to use, Robert felt he had to use the clock to fix a tragic disaster he thought he had caused. But could there be more to the story than met the eye? When Robert accidentally turned the hands of the clock too fast, knocking it over and breaking the clock, Robert (previously aged 10) suddenly found himself stuck as a 35-year-old (but with a 10-year-old brain). Will he stay stuck at age 35 and miss his entire childhood? Will they be able to fix the clock?
Meanwhile, evil Mr. Lowsley is lurking around town. He suspects that something magical is going on in Finkleton, and he’s determined to get to the bottom of it, at all costs.
Some elements of the book were kind of fantastical and hard to believe, but it was a very entertaining book. I liked the characters.
“Return to Finkleton” by KC Hilton is the second book in the series. I think people will enjoy this second book more and understand it better if they first read “The Magic of Finkleton.” I would suggest this book to people who like books about magic, and time travel. With 208 pages, I thought this book would take a while to read, but before I knew it the book was over. The book ended on a cliff hanger, and I can’t wait to read the next book!
