My Name is Rapunzel

Once upon a time, there was a girl with long hair and she lived in a tower. We all know the story. Don’t we? My tale has been told again and again, and I’ve heard each one. Except for my hair, I barely recognize the pitiful renditions. Muddled versions, crafted to entertain laughing children…but the children wouldn’t have laughed if they’d known the real story. It wasn’t their fault. They didn’t know the truth. Nobody did. My name is Rapunzel and I will tell you my story. I will tell you the truth. YA – Fantasy – Folklore & Mythology – Fairy Tale Retelling People are excited to read My Name is Rapunzel. Read what they are saying on Goodreads! AmazonBarnes and Noble Audible

    1. I’ve just posted the new description, but I will include it here for you as well =)
The book and edits should be finished within the next few months. The big question is…How will it be published?
I’m not sure if I will try to go the traditional route and get an agent or self publish it.

The official back of the book text for My Name is Rapunzel is below Enjoy!

  1. I’m sooo excited to read this book !! I’d like to know if there is any romance in it …is there ?
And I’d also like to tell u that I write stories , it is something I LOVE to do and hopefully someday I’ll be able to publish them 🙂

    1. Thank you! Yes, there will be some romance in this book =)
How wonderful! If writing is what you love to do, then keep writing and don’t stop =)
Don’t forget to read, read and read =)

  2. I seriously love retellings (is that even a word?) and adaptions of fairytales! Will you be giving out any snippets from the book for the lead-up until it comes out?

    1. I’m not entirely sure. The book will be completely finished in April, including all editing phases. I have been urged to contact a few agents. So we’ll see =) Please continue to watch for updates on my website, YouTube and Goodreads =)

  3. OMG! I’m so excited to read this book! I, like any other teenage girl with a ‘magical’ upbringing, am a complete sucker for fairytales! I hope it comes out soon 😀
I was wondering whether it will have all or most of the characteristics of the original story, or whether it will be completely different? Also, will it lean more towards cheesy and romantic, or mystery and drama? And will it be a single book, or is it going to be a series? (You must be so annoyed at me for asking so many questions 😛 sorry)

    1. Thank you! I can’t give too much away about Rapunzel’s true story. But, what I can say is that a few things remained constant with the stories we all know: Rapunzel’s long hair, the tower and the witch. Rapunzel’s true story tells a new tale of how and why she lives in a tower. It will lean more towards mystery and drama (with only a bit of romance, but not cheesy). It’s a stand alone book and I love answering questions =)

Recently I did an interview about the book: http://abackwardsstory.blogspot.com/2013/03/interview-kc-hilton-my-name-rapunzel.html

  4. I learned about the book while on goodreads.com & I just had to click on it. As soon as I read the description I was hooked. I kept looking for a release date, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I really hope it comes out soon.

  5. Okay, I have read the what My Name is Repunzel is about, and on Goodreads, it says that it has been published, but there is no date. And, a lot of people are still marking it has to-read. So is it published or not. I REALLY want to read this book. I just feel that pull to it when you got to have something.

    1. Hello. Thank you so much for your interest in My Name is Rapunzel. It hasn’t been published, yet. If I decide to self-publish, then it’ll be released this year. If I try the traditional route, then it’ll take longer and the Goodreads page will be updated when the decision has been made. The book is in its final editing stages and the street team will be able to read the digital ARC within a few weeks. Here is a link about a mini-update, if you’re interested =) http://www.kc-hilton.com/2013/04/my-name-is-rapunzel-update/

  6. SELF PUBLISH!!! IT’S LIKE I’M DYING A VERY SLOW DEAD WAITING FOR THIS BOOK TO COME OUT!!!! But will there be an epub version than?

    1. Thank you for your interest in My Name is Rapunzel. I’ll have the book back from the editor this week. At this time, I’m undecided about which way to publish. If the book is published traditionally, it could be a year or so before it gets released. If I decide to self-publish, it would only take a few months. Sorry, I don’t have a better answer. Keep watching for updates =)

  7. OMG im just sitting here reading comments hahaha , this book has really got everyone obsessed or something

    1. Thank you for your interest in My Name is Rapunzel… Haha! That’s certainly one way of putting it, lol. The Street Team is currently reading the digital ARC. I can’t wait for the world to read it =) Have a great weekend!

  8. OMG i so cant wait for this book!!! Just the description has me bouncing out of my seat!!! i really hope it comes out soon.

  9. Wow, this book looks pretty good. 🙂 I hope you have a publishing date for us soon, since it’s not anywhere in Goodreads or anywhere else, for that matter.

I know you mentioned that you’re considering going the self-pub way or not, and that is making the pub date not to be clear yet.

To be honest, in my opinion, I think you should go the regular (and long) way, even if it means that the book will be released next year. I hate to wait, lol, but sadly self-pub books are simply too full of errors, mostly grammar. If you go the self-pub way, please, please get an editor for your book. I’d hate to see a wonderful story as this one seems to be, get lost in bad grammar.

Very few self-pub books are worth the time, simply because of this. It makes your eyes bleed to see so many errors, also in the plot of the story. Things that could’ve been avoided with a good editor.

So yeah, sorry to be a pain. I really DO want to read this book when it comes out, and because of that I just hope it’s the best book it can be. Even if we have to wait longer.

    1. Thank you so much for your interest in My Name is Rapunzel. I undertand about many self-published books having typos, errors and grammar issues. Actually, I hired two editors for my books. Yes, two. I know, I know. Why would I need two editors? Well, the main editor (and myself) were too close to the story, so I hired a second editor to do the line edit/proofreading. Also, the street team for My Name is Rapunzel has been awesome! They found a few minor things that my editor and I did not catch, since we’re too close to the book. I agree, I want this book to be the best that it can be. I’m currently sending out queries to a few Literary Agents. Fingers crossed! Here is a link to the most recent video mini-update. Thanks for saying, “hello”. Enjoy!

  10. Thank you for your answer. Sorry if I sounded bitchy or something. I just really want to read this book and I think it has the potential to be really good.

I’m so glad you’re doing this and sure as hell will keep my fingers crossed that you get a deal and can publish this. 🙂 I truly wish you the best of luck and will be following the blog for updates.

    Love.

    1. Thank you! No worries! It didn’t seem that way at all, lol. You, me and thousands of other people just want great books to read =) Thank you so much for your support. I greatly appreciate it! I can’t wait for you to read it =)

  11. Dear K, sorry for bothering you, but would you mind telling me when the publishing date is due to be set? I’m waiting since February to get this info.

    Cheers from Argentina!

I am from india. so I wanted to know whether will release your book in india as well…!!
    Thank you

    1. Hi! Thanks so much for your interest in My Name is Rapunzel. I’m terribly excited for the world to read the book, but I’m trying my best to secure an agent, so the book will be traditionally published (it would reach a broader audience, including India). I’ve thought about different books that could go with My Name is Rapunzel, obviously with new characters, but a fairy tale retelling, just the same. We’ll see! Keep watching my blog (on this website) for any updates. Thanks again and fingers crossed the book gets picked up soon, because (last I checked) over 12,800 people have it on their TBR lists on Have a great weekend! =)

  13. Hello, Just wanted to say that i am so exited for your book to come out. I actually found out about your book on Goodreads, ever since then I have been wanting to get my hands on a copy. Retellings of a fairy tale are always so much fun to read, because they can be so suspenseful and dynamic.

    1. Thank you so much for your interest in My Name is Rapunzel. I’m terribly excited for the world to read the book and I’m trying my best to secure a literary agent, but it takes time. Wish me luck! =)

  14. Hi! The Goodreads page for My Name is Rapunzel says that this has been released. Can I ask where I can find it? I’ve been looking forward to it!

    1. Hi and thank you for your interest in My Name is Rapunzel. I’m sorry to say, the book has not been released, yet. The goodreads information page has the word “published” automatically inserted and a date is usually put in (but the date was left blank). The system will not allow the word “published” to be deleted. It’s a bit confusing and I’m sorry for that. I posted an update video here:http://www.kc-hilton.com/2013/06/my-name-is-rapunzel-update-2/ Currently, I’m sending out queries to a few agents. It’s hard to find literary agents who still want a fairy tale retelling. They know what the publishers want and I’m still hoping the book will get snatched up, soon. As of today, over 13,300 people want to read it, on Goodreads. That number is impressive and I hope it attracts some attention. I’ll keep my social media channels and my website updated with any news. Have a great week! =)

    1. Thank you for your interest in My Name is Rapunzel. No news yet. I’m patiently waiting to hear back from a few Literary Agents. Fingers crossed! As of today, 13.650 people have shelved it to read on Goodreads. I hope it gets picked up soon =) Have a great weekend!

  15. I read the title of this book months ago and I keep checking and checking to see if it came out yet, but no. I can’t wait to buy it and read it, I hope we will have it at our outlets here in Malta if not I will buy it online for sure.

    1. Thank you for your interest in My Name is Rapunzel. I’m sorry to say that the book has not been published, yet. No matter how the book gets published, traditionally or self published, it will be available for anyone to purchase online. I can’t wait for you to read it! Have a great weekend!

  16. Hey there:

Just wanted to ask about the publishing date for this book. According to GR, it will be on December 15, 2013. Is this true or is yet another mistake of GR? Until now, it has only said 2013, so this date caught my eye.

Thanks and looking forward to reading this.

    1. Hi! Yes, it’s true! Yay! December 15, 2013 or earlier. I was advised by two, traditionally published, authors and a friend (she was the owner of a traditionally published company years ago), to go ahead and self publish the book. The book was in the hands of three different editors and proofread twice, by two different proofreaders (just to make sure) and the cover looks amazing. The book will be available in hardcover, paperback, eBook and audio. The book trailer will be finished in a few days. Maya Banks recently announced that she is planning to self publish her next three book series. And Patti Davis (Ronald and Nancy Reagan’s daughter – well known author) recently self published a book. It was also mentioned, since the book has gained so much attention, to go ahead and self publish so the readers don’t have to wait any longer. I plan to do as much advertising as my wallet can handle. Have a wonderful weekend! =)

      1. Ok, pardon my French, but holy shit, yay! *Tosses Confetti and Twirls*

I’ll remove it from my TBA list onto my Dec list and anxiously wait for it.

Thanks, sweetie and have a great (rest) of the weekend yourself. 🙂

        1. I’m dancing under the confetti with you! LOL. I’m terribly excited! I can’t wait to do an update video to announce it to the world! Yay! I’ve been listening to a few chapters of the audio book and it’s totally amazing! The voice over artist is doing a fantastic job bringing Rapunzel’s story to life. I swear, it’s the voice that was in my head, when I wrote the book =) I plan to put a sample audio on the website, soon!

          1. 🙂 So happy for you, sweetie.

And OMG, how exciting and weird it must be to listen to the words you wrote, lol.

  17. Just awesome that you’re doing a rendition on Rapunzel. I’m a sucker for Fairy Tales.
    .Can’t .Wait.
When will it be available in India ?!?

    1. Thank you! I hope you enjoy it =)
Currently the eBook is being distributed on these channels: Apple iBookstore, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Sony Reader Store, Kobo, Copia, Gardners, Baker & Taylor, eBookPie, eSentral, Scribd, and PagePusher. Although, the eBook has been distributed to these suppliers, it could take a few weeks or more to show up on their sites.

      Here is the Amazon.in link
The paperback will be available on Amazon.in soon, too.
It’ll be a few weeks before the paperback is available on http://www.bookdepository.com
      Book Depository ships free worldwide.

Thanks so much for your support! Have a wonderful week =)

  18. I loved this book so much! I didn’t put it down from the moment I started reading it. Was just wondering, are you only doing a one off, or do you plan on making a series starting with My Name is Repunzel? It would be brilliant to read some more of your work in this area, and I plan on reading the Finkleton Series asap because you are officially one of my favorite authors. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed reading My Name is Rapunzel. The initial plan was to have Rapunzel stand alone, but you never know what might transpire. Currently, I have a few other books I’m putting together, but it takes time. Send me an email at author@kc-hilton.us and I’ll be more than glad to send you some swag! I greatly appreciate you taking the time to say, “hello”. Thank you for making my day! =)

  19. Hey,I am really looking forward on reading this book but can’t find it anywhere in India. I’d like to know when it will be releasing or has realeased in India;)

  20. Hi, I found your book, my name is rupunzel one day in the library, and decided to see what it was like. I found myself reading the whole book in a matter of hours, I just couldn’t put it down. In the end I found myself wondering, will you write more? I’m dying to find out if there will be more of these great stories. I myself am a mother of three girls, and look forward to reading this book with my girls in the future, and how to see more to enjoy as well.

Thank you for such a wonderful story.

    1. I’m so glad you enjoyed reading My Name is Rapunzel. Yay! It’s always great to hear from Rapunzel’s fans. I’m currently working on a Chick-Lit novel and I need to finish the last book in the Finkleton series, Saving Finkleton. If you’d like to send me an email at author@kc-hilton.us I’d be more than glad to mail you some bookmarks =)
